In most cases, the plug is same as your original, direct fit. If it's different, you have to cut off and spliced, it's also an easy job.

86 gl1200 aspencade pump

The pump was easy to put in and the exact same style as my old one. The only thing I did notice is that it ticks a little louder and I'm not sure if it's actually using a little more gas. As I notice that my MPG has gone down from 45 to 40 but it may be just the way I'm driving. Also I will do a few tests to see which is the case..
